Shredders

Getting a shredder could well be the best investment you ever did for your privacy and the security of your data and personal information. And while many people try to protect all this for their personal satisfaction and peace of mind, it is a really strong way of securing your assets from theft. Ever thought about what information can be retrieved from your garbage? Dipping in there is a nearly always working way of getting to credit card statements, bank account information and everything else in most cases, because many people do not yet see the importance of such things. Just imagine having worked your whole life and then being robbed of your savings because somebody found account information in your garbage!

Using a shredder will at first be something you will have to think consciously about and remind yourself to do regularly, but once you get used to it it's one of the safest ways of getting rid of your obsolete documents. And not only paper can easily be disposed of securely in this manner, CDs and similarly flat data supports can also be easily destroyed with a good solid shredder.

Buying a shredder can, with the mass of variety and different models available, a really difficult mission. It may well be that you find yourself overwhelmed by everything you see advertised so consider this guide as a help to understand what is important in choosing the right shredder for you.

Different important features to look out for are for instance the pages per pass, a number which indicates how many pages of plain paper can be shredded in a single pass. This is important because if you already accumulated a big pile of papers and want to destroy it securely, you won't have the patience to destroy them one sheet at a time. So getting a decent shredder that can handle at least 10 sheets per pass is a good idea, especially if you might also want to destroy CDs, as this is not possible in the lower range models.

Shredders also use different types of cutting, they either cut paper into long strips or into confetti, cutting horizontally and vertically, which produces a far more secure mess of tiny pieces which is nearly impossible to reconstruct, especially if there is more paper in the bin.
